OVERSEAS Per Diem Rates
Military members who perform TDY (Temporary Duty) away from their normal duty stations are authorized to be reimbursed for additional expenses, such as lodging and meals. The military reimburses such expenses in the way of a daily "Per Diem" payment.

What Congress Has in Store for You in 2007
Congress has passed the FY 2007 Defense Authorization Act, and the President has signed the act into law. Here's a "sneak peak" at what pay and benefit changes made it into law, and which proposals didn't make the cut for 2007.
Base Pay
Basic Pay Charts for Calendar Year 2007. Congress has approved a 2.2 percent increase in Basic Pay, as well as a separated "targeted" increase for some members.
Housing Allowance (BAH)
The 2007 Basic Allowance for Housing (BAH). BAH is payable when a member is authorized to reside off-base at government expense.
Average Housing Allowance (BAH) Rates
While the amount of BAH received depends on the duty location, the charts here show the AVERAGE BAH for military members.

Guard and Reserve Drill Pay
The 2007 Guard and Reserve Drill Pay includes an across-the-board 2.2 percent payraise, effective on January 1, 2007.
Guard/Reserve Housing Allowance
Guard and Reserve members on active duty for less than 30 days receive a different type of housing allowance than active duty members. This type of housing allowance is known as Basic Allowance for Housing Reserve Component/Transit, and pays less, on average, than Basic Allowance for Housing.
Food Allowance (BAS)
Basic Allowance for Sustenance (BAS) is a monthly monetary food allowance for military members when it is impractical to consume "free" government meals in the dining facility (chow hall).
Enlistment & Reenlistment Bonuses
Individuals who agree to enlist in certain, designated jobs may be eligible for a monetary enlistment bonus. Enlisted members who reenlist in some jobs may be entitled to a monetary bonus.
Submarine Duty Pay
Military members who serve aboard submarines are authorized special compensation, known as "Submarine Duty Pay."
Sea Pay
Military personnel assigned to duty at sea are authorized a special monthly pay.
Flight Pay

Jump Pay
Military members who are required to jump out of perfectly good aircraft as part of their military duties are entitled to a special kind of pay, known as "Jump Pay," or "Parachute Duty Pay."
Dislocation Allowance
The Dislocation Allowance is designed to partially reimburse military members for moving a household.

Family Separation Allowance
Family Separation Allowance (FSA) is payable only to members with dependents. Basically, family separation allowance is payable when a military member is forced to be away from his/her dependents for longer than 30 days, due to military orders.
Combat Zone
A member assigned to or deployed to a combat zone receives "combat pay.". Being assigned to or working in a combat zone triggers also triggers a tax advantage.
Child Support Allowance
Special rules/rates apply for active duty members who live in the barracks and pay child support. Such members are not entitled to the regular housing allowance, but may be entitled to a special allowance, called BAH-DIFF.
Clothing Allowance
Military members are given an annual clothing allowance for the replacement and maintenance of military uniforms.
Retirement Pay
These charts show the monthly retirement pay for active duty members who retire during 2007. Military personnel can retire after 20 years of active duty service.
Involuntary Separation Pay
Many military members who are involuntarily separated from the military are entitled to involuntary separation pay (severance pay). To be eligible, a military member must have six or more years of active duty, and less than 20 years.
